Crossacres and Ashgate Primary School

Value: £4.8m
Client: Manchester City Council
Architect: AFL Architects

Crossacres and Ashgate Primary School project comprised the refurbishment and extension of an existing school to co-locate two schools within the same site. The project involved a number of phases to minimize the impact on the existing schools operation.

The refurbishment of the 1950’s existing building, containing asbestos, to accommodate severely disabled pupils from Ashgate SEN School posed a great challenge on the services installation. As a result, detailed surveys were undertaken by BCM to identify new suitable services distribution routes. This minimized the need to disturb the asbestos containing underfloor services duct.

The designs were also DDA compliant and appropriate for the special educational needs of the school.

  • Improved Energy Efficiency
  • Good daylight factors with reduced solar gains
  • No disruption to existing services
  • 1950’s building now DDA compliant
